Saturday evening, I had the honor of photographing Randy’s incredible proposal to Secil on a sailboat out on the Chesapeake Bay! My time on the sailboat photographing this moment in their relationship was absolutely delightful! You couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening on the water. We sailed out on the Licentia from the Eastport Yacht Center and I was introduced to the couple as “a photographer hired to take photos for the Captain’s website.”
Randy chartered the two and a half hour sailboat cruise. I photographed details on the boat, Annapolis and the Bay Bridge while waiting for the proposal to happen. I even snuck in some photos of Secil and Randy steering the boat towards Kent Island.
Then, after giving Randy and Secil some time to enjoy the view from the head of the boat, I joined them and asked if they would like me to take their photo, which was Randy’s cue to get the ring from the cabin. When he came back, I suggested to the two of them to check out the view from the very front of the boat – which is when Randy took Secil by the hands, and began his speech. He talked about their three years together, and she responded with “oh my god, this is actually happening!” while shedding a few joyful tears. Randy then got on bended knee and asked Secil to marry him! She said YES! Randy bravely slipped the most gorgeous diamond ring on Secil’s finger, and they exchanged many heartfelt hugs and kisses. Captain Tony then brought the two a bouquet of roses as well as champagne, and we proceeded to take some engagement photos as Tony sailed us back towards Annapolis.
In the weeks leading up to the proposal, Randy and I emailed back and forth discussing plans and telling me about their love story. Secil moved here from Turkey, and the two met on match.com. Randy’s proposal was absolutely perfect! Afterwards, the two celebrated with dinner reservations in downtown Annapolis.
Congratulations, Secil and Randy! It was an incredible privilege and honor to photograph this moment in your relationship.
